Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Thursday stressed that the National Economic Transformation Programme is being developed as part of an ongoing effort to formulate an integrated economic vision reflecting the state’s priorities for the coming period.
Speaking during a meeting to review the latest developments in preparing the programme, the premier said the programme seeks to achieve greater alignment between fiscal and monetary policies, meet citizens’ needs, improve living standards and strengthen Egypt’s capacity for sustainable economic growth.
Egypt condemns Israeli settlers’ storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque
The Arab Republic of Egypt strongly condemns the storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque by hundreds of Israeli settlers, accompanied by provocative acts and the performance of religious rituals inside its courtyards, in violation of the established historical and legal status quo governing the holy site.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, Egypt warns of the serious consequences of the continued and escalating incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, particularly as they take place against the backdrop of ongoing settlement activities and provocative statements, as well as attempts to alter the existing status quo and impose a new reality within the Mosque compound, known as Al-Haram Al-Sharif.
Egyptian Saaka, Italian Special Forces conduct joint drill
As part of the Armed Forces’ commitment to strengthening military co-operation with counterparts from brotherly and friendly nations, elements of the Egyptian Ranger (Saaka) Forces and Italian Special Forces conducted the joint exercise “IT-EGY-T-4.”
Focused on combat operations in mountainous terrain, the exercise took place over several days in Italy.
105 Palestinians buried after remains recovered
Hundreds of Palestinians on Thursday attended the funeral of the remains of 105 Palestinians recovered from beneath the rubble of destroyed residential buildings in the Al-Yarmouk area of Gaza City.
Families of the victims and local residents performed funeral prayers over the remains, which were wrapped in Palestinian flags before being transferred to the Martyrs Cemetery in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, northwest of Gaza City, where they were buried.
15 Nepali workers die in Himalayan avalanche
At least 15 Nepali workers were killed when an avalanche buried a mountain camp they were preparing in central Nepal for foreign climbers, a rescue official said on Thursday, in the deadliest incident of the Autumn climbing season ending this month.
The avalanche buried the base camp of the 7,126-metre Himlung Himal mountain in the northern Manang district over the weekend where the Nepali workers were pitching tents and fixing ropes. One remains missing.
SpaceX sends 4 astronauts to ISS
Four astronauts rocketed into orbit Thursday on a space station mission that will stretch until spring, among them a Canadian whose wife will give birth while he’s away.
SpaceX launched commander Jessica Watkins and her crew for NASA after a three-week delay to fix the capsule’s leaking fuel system. Thick clouds threatened all morning to halt the countdown but in the end, the skies cleared enough to allow for a safe liftoff.
