Justice Min., Chinese delegation probe advancing legal ties

Minister of Justice Counselor Mahmoud El-Sherif received on Wednesday a high-level delegation from the People’s Republic of China to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral co-operation in areas of mutual interest, particularly legal, legislative, judicial, and institutional affairs.

The Chinese delegation was headed by Deputy Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and Deputy Head of the National Supervisory Commission Yu Hongqiu.

Egypt condemns attempt to target Mecca

The Arab Republic of Egypt strongly condemns and unequivocally denounces the heinous attempt to target the holy city of Mecca, describing the act as a grave violation of the sanctity of Islam’s holiest sites and an unacceptable threat to the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, Egypt stresses that any act directed against Mecca constitutes a serious affront to the sanctity of religious sites and runs contrary to the fundamental values and principles of Islam, as well as the established rules and provisions of international law.

PM reviews preps for dedicated WEF business meeting

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly called a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review preparations for hosting a dedicated business meeting in Cairo in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF) this November.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid.

France recorded 817 excess deaths of heatwaves

PARIS – France recorded at least 817 excess deaths between July 27 and August 20, when ‌the country was hit by exceptionally high temperatures, the national health agency said on Wednesday.

This would bring the total recorded so far to ⁠nearly 8,000 excess deaths since June and the start of a series of heatwaves.

Russian drones hit Ukrainian bus, train

KYIV – Russian drones struck a passenger bus and a train in southern Ukraine on Wednesday, killing five people, Ukrainian officials said, as Moscow pressed on ‌with strikes on transport links and infrastructure.
