Wego, the number 1 travel app for flight search and booking in the MENA region, has marked Egypt as the most popular destination in the region among world travellers.
“Egypt is still the first favourite tourist destination for tourists, travelling from the Middle East and North Africa region,” the app said in its new report which includes a list of the most popular tourist destinations for travellers in the MENA region during the first quarter of 2023.
It added that Egypt maintains this position for the ninth year in a row.
Egypt, Wego said, gives its visitors a unique experience with a mixture of ancient history, ancient culture and picturesque beaches for relaxation and adventure.
Meanwhile, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) topped the list of the ten largest museums in Africa in 2023.
This was included in a report released by the Read Nigeria Network (RNN), a leading infotainment blog.
“GEM is the largest museum in the world dedicated to one civilisation – the Egyptian civilisation,” the blog said. “It is located near the Giza pyramids plateau, and houses many artefacts that reflect the ancient Egyptian civilisation, including the treasures of Egypt’s Golden King Tutankhamun,” it added.
The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, opened in 1902, came in second place in the list.
RNN described the museum as ‘one of the major in Africa’.
“It contains a collection of the most important Egyptian artefacts,” it said of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.
