Dolphins with a pinkish appearance have reportedly been seen near Qantab Beach in Oman, drawing attention after videos of the animals circulated on social media.
The footage appears to show the dolphins swimming close to shore and surfacing in the Gulf of Oman. Their species has not been confirmed.
Marine experts say a pinkish hue can reflect natural differences in pigmentation, blood circulation or lighting. Colour alone is not enough to identify a dolphin species, and the animals should not be confused with the Amazon river dolphin, a freshwater species from South America.
Dolphins are found in the Gulf of Oman, but sightings of animals with a pronounced pink appearance are considered unusual. The videos may help document the encounter, though reliable identification would require further evidence, experts say.
