The first solar eclipse in 2022 is coming on April 30, President of the Egyptian National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research Gad Al-Qadi said on Monday.
There will be a narrow band of visibility across parts of Antarctica, the southern tip of South America, and the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, Qadi noting it will not be observed in Egypt or the Arab region.
The solar eclipse will be followed by a total lunar eclipse on May 16, which parts of it will be observed in Egypt.
Partial solar eclipses occur when the moon blocks only a portion of the solar disk. In this case, roughly 64% of the sun’s disk will be blotted out at most, Qadi added.
