The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has welcomed around four million visitors since its official opening in November 2025, with numbers expected to climb further as Egypt’s new tourist season gets underway.
The visitor total and museum revenues through the end of August were reviewed at a recent meeting of the museum authority’s board. The board also heard an update on recent activities and events, including visits by Egyptian and Chinese presidents.
In a boost to the museum’s conservation work, the board accepted a French donation of equipment to monitor humidity in the galleries. The devices will help track environmental conditions around the artefacts and support preventive conservation.
The board also approved amended financial statements and final accounts for the 2025/2026 financial year, and reviewed plans for co-operation agreements with international universities and archaeological museums.
