The head of Egypt’s National Press Authority (NPA), Abdel-Sadeq el-Shorbagy, and National Media Authority (NMA) Chairman Ahmed el-Moslemany on Sunday signed a co-operation protocol between the two bodies.

The agreement, signed at the NPA’s headquarters, covers media and advertising, documentary production and joint media projects.

Shorbagy praised collaboration with the NMA and the role of Maspero, Egypt’s state broadcaster, in strengthening the country’s soft power.

He also commended efforts to restore Maspero’s leading role and said the NPA would support its creative professionals in what he called the “battle for awareness”.

Shorbagy said state-owned press institutions had the resources to support joint production projects and expressed hopes for an ambitious partnership on digital transformation, in line with presidential directives.

El-Moslemany welcomed the agreement, saying it came as Egypt prepared to mark the centenary of its radio service. The government enacted the country’s radio law in 1926.

He also pointed to preparations for the 150th anniversary of Al-Ahram, one of the world’s oldest press institutions.

He praised the NPA’s efforts to restore the standing of Egypt’s state-owned press, highlighting its long history and extensive archives as a foundation for joint projects, particularly following the launch of a project to digitise Maspero’s archives.
