Egypt has won gold in the cultural and heritage tourism category at British travel magazine Wanderlust’s annual readers’ travel awards.
The award, chosen by the magazine’s readers, placed Egypt first among competing destinations in the 25th edition of the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards.
Ahmed Youssef, chief executive of the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion, accepted the award at a ceremony at the Painted Hall in London’s Old Royal Naval College. Around 500 travel and tourism industry leaders and officials attended, the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry said.

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and founder of the sustainable travel initiative Travalyst, delivered the keynote speech, focusing on responsible tourism and cooperation across the sector, according to the ministry.
Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy said the award reflected the country’s cultural and archaeological appeal, including its museums and historic sites.
He also cited efforts to preserve those sites and improve services for visitors. Youssef said the recognition could support Egypt’s promotional efforts and encourage both new and returning visitors interested in cultural tourism.
