Egypt’s National Media Authority (NMA) has begun preparations for a new documentary, “Agatha Christie in Aswan,” to be broadcast on Egyptian television channels and Maspero’s digital platforms, NMA said.

The film is part of a documentary series titled “They Passed Through Here…” focusing on visits to Egypt by prominent international figures and the impact of the country on their intellectual and personal journeys.

The series has also featured figures including physicist Albert Einstein, Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore and revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara.

The Agatha Christie documentary will examine the British crime novelist’s repeated visits to Egypt, particularly her stay at Aswan’s historic Old Cataract Hotel and her journeys along the Nile.

Those experiences helped provide the setting and inspiration for “Death on the Nile,” one of Christie’s best-known novels.

The production will draw on rare archival material and analysis documenting the cultural interaction between Egypt’s landscapes and Christie’s imagination, NMA said.

The project forms part of the authority’s efforts to preserve Egypt’s national and cultural memory while promoting the country’s historical, cultural and tourism heritage.
