Egypt’s National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation on Wednesday opened an exhibition showcasing traditional and creative industries from the Chinese city of Hangzhou, as part of celebrations marking 70 years of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China.
The two-day exhibition, titled “Create Hangzhou 2026 — Innovation in Hangzhou’s Traditional Crafts,” was inaugurated by Tayeb Abbas, chief executive of the museum authority, and Yu Xinping, director of the Hangzhou Cultural and Creative Industries Development Centre, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The exhibition features selected works highlighting Hangzhou’s cultural heritage, including Chinese seal carving, creative products inspired by the city’s intangible cultural heritage and Tonglu paper-cutting.
It also includes interactive workshops allowing visitors to learn about Chinese traditional arts and crafts and the techniques used to create them.
Abbas said the exhibition reflected the museum’s role in promoting dialogue and cultural exchange between civilisations and provided an example of cultural cooperation between Egypt and China.
He added that such events create opportunities for exchanging expertise in heritage, archaeology and museums, while raising awareness of intangible cultural heritage and its role in fostering understanding between peoples.
Yu said the exhibition would introduce Egyptian audiences to Hangzhou’s rich cultural heritage and traditional crafts, describing heritage and craftsmanship as a “common language and bridge” connecting peoples and cultures.
The event is expected to support broader cultural and creative cooperation between Egypt and China, the ministry said.
