Egypt’s Culture Ministry brought music, puppetry and traditional dance to a Cairo metro station, offering moments of joy to children visiting nearby hospitals and their families after medical appointments.

The event at Sayeda Zeinab station sought to provide emotional and humanitarian support alongside medical care, allowing children to briefly escape the strain of hospital visits through entertainment and artistic performances.

Performers took part, including a puppet troupe which staged shows combining entertainment and educational messages about hope, confidence and life.

A youth folk arts troupe also performed dances inspired by Egyptian heritage, introducing children to traditional arts and promoting pride in the country’s cultural identity.

The programme included performances by people with disabilities, drawing enthusiastic applause from passengers and highlighting the role of art in promoting inclusion and celebrating diversity.

Sayeda Zeinab station was chosen because of its proximity to several children’s hospitals. Hundreds of children and their families pass through the station each day on their way to or from treatment.

The event forms part of a co-operation programme between the culture and transport ministries aimed at turning metro stations into open cultural platforms, bringing the arts closer to citizens and transforming public spaces into venues for creativity and human connection.
