Chinese broadcaster Liu Xin praised the warmth and generosity of Egyptians during a visit to Cairo, saying ties between Egypt and China had grown beyond political and economic co-operation into a friendship felt by people in their daily lives.

Liu, a prominent presenter with China Global Television Network (CGTN), shared photos and comments from her trip on Facebook, describing visits to Saad Zaghloul Market and several Egyptian landmarks.

“Want to know a city? Start where the locals shop,” Liu wrote, describing the market’s colourful fruits, local flavours, welcoming smiles and spontaneous selfies.

She also highlighted Egyptian cuisine, including molokhia, grilled meat, stuffed pigeons and tahini-based dips.

“Some dishes are more than just food. They carry the flavors of home and traditions passed down through generations,” she wrote, adding that molokhia was “one of those unmistakably Egyptian tastes” she would remember.

In another post, Liu referred to the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, saying she was getting to know the country by “seeing it, tasting it and meeting the people who call it home.”

She said the pyramids were breathtaking, but also praised everyday encounters at the market, including conversations with vendors and sampling guavas and mangoes.

China and Egypt established diplomatic relations in 1956.
