The Australian Museum in Sydney held a press conference on Thursday to announce the opening of the “Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs” exhibition.

The six-month exhibition is on its fourth stop after showing in Houston and San Francisco in the US and Paris.

About 100 Australian, Arab and international news agencies, newspapers and television channels attended the conference.

Top official delegation from the Ministry of Antiquities led by Mostafa Waziry, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities were also present.

Waziry described the way of displaying the artefacts as distinguished. “It enables visitors to enjoy viewing all the exhibits, especially the coffin of King Ramses II, which is of great importance among all the exhibition’s holdings.”

The exhibition also includes 181 artefacts and ornate golden treasures, including one-of-a-kind relics such as sarcophagi, animal mummies, magnificent jewellery, spectacular royal masks, exquisite amulets – many of which have never left Egypt before.

Waziry also praised the way of promoting the exhibition, the streets, shops and schools were filled with advertisements for the exhibition.

“This propaganda is important because it will encourage all residents of the city of Sydney and its visitors from inside and outside Australia to visit the exhibition.”

He gave over 25 interviews for several Australian and foreign media outlets.

Kim McKay, director of the museum, expressed her happiness in hosting this important exhibition with its rich and great archaeological treasures, which express the status of King Ramses II and the huge buildings and monuments he built.

At the end of the conference, a video was shown of a speech by famed archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass in which he noted that he is currently carrying out excavations in the tomb of King Ramses II in Luxor, which may reveal new secrets from the life of this great king.
