LUSAKA – Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema thanked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for the efforts exerted by Egypt during its presidency of the 21st Summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
He made the remarks on Thursday during the launch of the 22nd COMESA Summit which is attended by President Sisi.
The Zambian president stressed his country’s keenness on promoting cooperation via giving momentum to trade and investment in Africa and enhancing peace and stability across the continent.
The 22nd COMESA Summit seeks boosting ways of cooperation and propelling development through upholding investment and trade among the African countries, the Zambian president said, noting that the Coronavirus pandemic has badly affected investments in the region.
Despite challenges, the African continent has managed to unite ranks and achieve independence, he said, stressing that COMESA has always sought attaining the independence of all African countries.
He also pointed out to hindrances facing the African continent, including the emigration of youths and the dilapidated public and private facilities.
He called for facilitating the trade transactions in Africa, in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), with a view to removing obstacles crippling the development of the continent.
The Zambian president pointed out to the necessity of preserving water resources in the continent, in order to maintain their sustainability.
Meanwhile, he expressed pleasure over hosting Arab and African representatives at the summit, underlining the significance of fostering relations among African countries.
