Cairo- The New Republic Youth Union, a gathering of young people backing development projects initiated by the administration of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Thursday called on the nation’s youth to participate in a national plan for the local production of plasma derivatives by donating blood.
The new move by the union comes within the framework of President’s Sisi’s initiative for the local manufacture of and self-sufficiency in plasma derivatives.
The authorities have already specified six centres in five governorates for the collection of blood plasma donations.
Twenty additional centres are scheduled to be opened in the coming period.
President Sisi revealed previously that self-sufficiency in plasma production had been a dream of his since he was Egypt’s defense chief.
The dream has apparently started coming true, when the president sponsored an initiative for the local production of all plasma requirements.
The project, specialists said, will have far-reaching effects on the response of the local health sector.
Assistant Minister of Health for Awareness and Information, Khalid Megahed, highlighted yesterday the importance of ensuring the safety of blood donations.
This safety, he said, contributes to protecting the health of blood donors and recipients.
He explained that health specialists usually extract the plasma from the blood of donors and then return red blood cells to the body after the donation process is complete.
Megahed noted that blood donations always happen with strict abidance to preventive measures from Covid-19 infection.
