The head of the Strategic Forum for Public Policies and Development Studies (Draya), Salah Hashim, said that the war in Ukraine has revealed racism on the part of Western media, especially when it comes to the way this media handled the refugee crisis caused by the war.
Western countries, he said, welcome Ukrainian refugees and open their doors to them.
“The same states are shunning refugees who hail from African and Arab states,” he said.
He added in remarks on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination that the international community has to move quickly to confront all forms of racial discrimination so that the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights does not become mere ink on paper.
“All the necessary measures to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination around the world have to be taken to increase respect for human dignity,” Hashim said.
“All human beings are equal before the law in duties and rights,” he added.
The head of the Draya Forum condemned what he described as the ‘systematic discrimination’ that Arabs and Africans are exposed to in most European countries because of religion or colour.
He called for immediate positive measures to eliminate all forms of discrimination.
March 21 is marked globally as the International Day for the Elimination of Racism.
United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2142, adopted on 26 October 1966, proclaimed 21 March as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to be commemorated annually.
