SHARM EL SHEIKH – US Ambassador in Cairo Jonathan Cohen said on Monday the co-operation between the US and Egyptian governments to reduce the severity of the coronavirus ramifications reflected the strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Addressing the opening panel of the Fourth Edition of the World Youth Forum, Cohen pointed out the two countries have worked together since the beginning of the pandemic to curb its spread, referring that the US had provided Egypt with $50 million to face the pandemic consequences. This is besides its donations of medical devices, test kits, and vaccine shots, he noted.
Cohen thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for Egypt’s donation of several medical devices to other countries.
The ambassador noted that the two countries cooperate in facing climate change as well, saying Egypt takes serious steps to address this dilemma by seeking to turn large sectors into green ones.
He hailed Egypt’s strategic geographic location that lures investments, adding the forum will discuss horizons of investment that serve to combat climate change.
Cohen said he decided to set up a youth council affiliated with the US Embassy in Cairo to prepare a large number of Egyptian entrepreneurs to work with the embassy in the issues of protecting the environment, youth empowerment, cultural innovation, and civil leadership.
