Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, attended on Monday the signing ceremony of two joint development projects between the Desert Research Centre (DRC) and the Arab Centre for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD).

The projects aim to strengthen Arab food security, ensure the sustainable management of natural resources, and address climate change through innovative scientific solutions.

The agreements were signed by DRC Head Hossam Shawky and ACSAD Director General Nasr El-Din El-Obeid.

The first project focuses on securing water resources to support sustainable agricultural development along Egypt’s north-western coast.

The second seeks to expand mangrove cultivation along the Red Sea coast, highlighting the vital role of mangrove ecosystems in supporting sustainable development, protecting shorelines from erosion, and preserving biodiversity.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Farouk met El-Obeid to review ACSAD’s development activities and successful projects implemented in Egypt, as well as future plans to support the agricultural sector.

The minister praised ACSAD’s efforts to promote sustainable development and strengthen food security, stressing the importance of continued co-operation between the two sides.

For his part, El-Obeid commended the strong partnership with the DRC, noting that the centre’s extensive scientific and practical expertise in desert development has been a key factor in the success of their joint projects.
