The Cabinet Media Centre has reviewed the key technical specifications of two new dry bulk carriers, Wadi El Nil and Wadi El Qamar, which joined the National Shipping Company’s fleet as part of the state’s efforts to strengthen, expand and modernise Egypt’s national merchant fleet.
The two vessels had been delivered by the Chinese shipyard New Hantong.The delivery supports the state’s strategy to enhance the fleet’s capacity to meet the requirements of maritime trade and transport, expand its presence in regional and international markets, and improve cargo-handling efficiency.
The Ministry of Transport is carrying out a comprehensive plan to increase the national merchant fleet to 40 vessels fully owned by companies affiliated with the ministry by 2030.
According to the Centre’s infographic, the two Kamsarmax-class vessels have identical specifications, each with a deadweight capacity of 82,000 tonnes.
Each measures 229 metres in length, 32.26 metres in breadth and has a draught of 14.5 metres.Both vessels are equipped with ballast water management systems to help protect the marine environment by reducing the transfer of marine organisms between different habitats.
They comply with applicable environmental requirements and international conventions.
The vessels feature advanced integrated navigation systems, modern communications equipment, and sophisticated engine monitoring and control systems, enhancing safety and operational efficiency.
Each is powered by a 7,490 kW MAN B&W main engine fitted with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to reduce emissions and meet the latest international environmental standards.
Each vessel has a fuel capacity of 2,054 cubic metres, enabling voyages of up to 90 days.
They are also equipped with fully integrated seawater desalination plants capable of producing 20 tonnes of fresh water per day to meet operational requirements.
