Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir inspected on Monday progress on the first phase of Cairo Metro Line 4, which will link 6th of October City with the Fustat Station in Old Cairo.

The visit comes as part of ongoing follow-up on service and development projects implemented by the Ministry of Transport.

During the tour, Wazir reviewed the executive status of El-Malek El-Saleh Station and construction progress at the remaining stations of the first phase, which is being carried out by Egyptian companies under the supervision of an international consultancy office in line with the highest technical, safety, and security standards.

The minister also checked progress in tunnel excavation works for the first section of the phase, where two tunnels, one in each direction, are being dug using four tunnel-boring machines. One machine has reached the Grand Egyptian Museum Station, another has reached Remaya Station, while a third is heading toward Madkour Station and the fourth toward Talbiya Station.

Wazir further reviewed ongoing preparations to assemble two additional tunnel-boring machines for the second section of the phase. The first machine is currently being lowered at Fustat Station and is scheduled to begin digging the first tunnel toward El-Malek El-Saleh Station in mid-March, while the second machine will start excavating the parallel tunnel from the same station in mid-April.

The first phase of the project extends over 19 km and includes 17 stations, 16 underground and one surface station. Studies are currently underway for the second phase, which will extend from Fustat to New Cairo over 26.9 km with 21 stations, including six elevated and 15 underground stops.

Authorities are also studying the third phase stretching from Hadayek Al Ashgar to Al Hosary Square over 16.3 km with 10 stations, linking with the West Nile Monorail.

The fourth phase, currently under study, will extend 38.7 km from New Cairo to the New Capital with eight stations, connecting with the Light Rail Transit Line (Adly Mansour–10th of Ramadan–New Capital) at Capital Airport Station.

Upon completion, the line is expected to transport around 1.5 million passengers daily.
