As part of Egypt’s efforts to strengthen African health partnerships, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar met Egypt’s ambassador to Uganda, Sherif Mohamed Abdel Latif, at the ministry headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
The meeting reviewed the achievements of the Egyptian Women’s Health Centre on Lake Victoria, inaugurated in 2021, and explored ways to expand cooperation in healthcare services. Discussions included the potential establishment of an emergency centre on a Kampala highway to support accident response, alongside training Ugandan medical staff to enhance emergency care capacity.
Abdel Ghaffar stressed Egypt’s commitment to reinforcing health collaboration with African nations, highlighting Egypt’s role in supplying medicines to Uganda in coordination with the Africa CDC during the Ebola outbreak. He underlined the importance of exchanging expertise, strengthening partnerships, and opening new avenues for cooperation in priority medical programmes.
The talks also addressed mechanisms for capacity building, emergency medical response, and African health partnerships, reflecting Egypt’s wider strategy to support sustainable health development across the continent.
