CAIRO – Egypt’s Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi has directed to enforce the summer working hours for the opening and closing of shops, malls, restaurants, and cafes starting from Saturday.

In a statement issued by the Local Development Ministry, he reiterated that the new working hours aim to ensure proper operation of public facilities to meet the needs of citizens.

The working hours, which last until the last Thursday of September, will be from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. for shops and malls, while restaurants and cafes will be open from 5:00 a.m till 1:00 a.m.

During Thursdays, Fridays and official vacations, the working hours will be extended for one more hour.

Meanwhile, restaurants will be allowed to run delivery and takeout services around the clock.

Workshops inside the residential areas will close their doors by 7:00 p.m., with an exception to those on the highways and fuel stations.

Supermarkets, groceries, bakeries, and pharmacies are excluded from the decision.

The minister firmly underlined the need to enforce all precautionary measures and social distancing to control the spread of Covid-19.
