The giant container vessel CMA CGM GRAND PALAIS, the newest and largest environmentally friendly ship powered by natural gas, has crossed the Suez Canal, marking its first voyage through the waterway as part of the southbound convoy, after safely crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait from Singapore en route to Malta.
The vessel measures 400 meters in length and 61 meters in width, with a carrying capacity of 23,876 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) and a total tonnage of 240,000 tons, according to an officials press release on Thursday.
The crossing highlights the canal’s ability to accommodate the latest generation of mega-ships, reinforcing its role as a vital global trade artery and a preferred route for modern, eco-conscious shipping fleets.
