Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir on Monday directed the National Authority for Tunnels to provide students with a 60 per cent discount on fares for the East Nile Monorail and Light Rail Transit (LRT), effective Wednesday.
He also ordered the reduction of train intervals on both services from 12 to nine minutes, effective Monday, coinciding with the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
El-Wazir stressed the need to maintain regular schedules, increase services during peak hours and strengthen safety and security measures in co-ordination with the Transport Police.
During an inspection tour of the East Nile Monorail on Monday, he reviewed train operations, station readiness and the preparedness of emergency response teams to ensure safe and reliable services for passengers.
The East Nile Monorail operates 142 daily trips, with services starting at 6:00am from Adly Mansour and Cairo Stadium stations. The last trains depart at 7:50pm.
The line runs from Cairo Stadium in Nasr City to Justice City in the New Capital, serving 22 stations.
Subscription offices are available at all stations throughout operating hours.
