Cairo governor Khaled Abdel Aal yesterday met with a Chinese delegation for co-operation talks.

Chinese Communist Party Secretary for Henan Province LóuYángshēng led the delegation in talks on fostering co-operation between the two sides in tourism, trade, investment, agriculture and culture.

The Cairo Governor said this meeting reflects the depth of relations between Egypt and China as manifested in the close ties between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Abdel Aal spoke of the great similarity between Cairo Governorate and Henan Province, which both have an ancient civilization and are enjoying a modern renaissance.

Henan Province possesses a rich historic and cultural heritage. It also plays a pivotal role in the history of China, as it was once a political, economic and cultural centre for over 3,000 years, the governor said.

Abdel Aal went on to say that infrastructure mega-projects carried out in China in recent years in relation to transport, roads, airports and power stations echo the great developments Egypt has been witnessing since President Sisi came to power in 2014. Since then, new cities like the New Administrative Capital and more roads have come into being.

Cairo has memoranda of understanding (MOUs) in many fields with many Chinese provinces.

For his part, LóuYángshēng voiced hope for an MoU on long-term co-operation with Cairo and inviting the Cairo Governor to visit China for further talks on mechanisms of enhancing cooperation between Cairo and Henan Province.

Henan Province is China’s main grain producer, playing a vital role in maintaining food security.
