Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and chairman of Spanish steel and aluminum group Gonvarri Industries, Jon Riberas, discussed on Tuesday potential investments in Egypt, particularly in automotive manufacturing, renewable energy and metal structures.

The talks also explored the possibility of Egypt becoming a regional hub for Gonvarri’s operations in the Middle East and Africa.

Prime Minister Madbouly said the government was keen to expand Gonvarri’s presence in Egypt and benefit from its expertise in steel and aluminum processing and manufacturing. He highlighted the country’s potential as a manufacturing and export base serving regional and African markets.

Renewable energy, particularly solar and wind power, was identified as a promising area for co-operation, given Egypt’s plans to expand clean-energy projects.

Madbouly also highlighted automotive manufacturing and components as a priority, saying that Gonvarri’s plant in Egypt could support efforts to localise the industry and deepen local manufacturing.

The prime minister directed Industry Minister Khaled Hashem to continue discussions with Gonvarri on proposed projects and said the government was ready to provide support and incentives to encourage investment.

Riberas said Gonvarri viewed Egypt as an important market and a potential regional hub for serving the Middle East and Africa. The company is assessing several investment models, including partnerships with local investors and industrial companies, he said.

Founded in Spain in 1958, Gonvarri has more than 65 years of experience in steel and aluminum processing. Its activities include automotive components, renewable energy, metal structures, infrastructure, electricity transmission towers, storage, warehousing and logistics.

Hashem said the talks also covered opportunities to localise Gonvarri products and industrial solutions in Egypt, including metal structures, construction materials, renewable energy and storage.

The two sides agreed to continue discussions on Gonvarri’s potential investments and industrial expansion in Egypt.
