Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag, who is also Vice-Board Chairman of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society (ERC), visited Aswan Governorate on Sunday to follow up on humanitarian relief for refugees displaced from Sudan since the outbreak of conflict in Khartoum last April.

The minister visited the Karkar International Transportation Station, a relief service point for the Egyptian Red Crescent for food supplies, medical services, personal hygiene, telephone communications, Internet services and transport.

Also on the minister’s itinerary was Abu Simbel, which serves a logistical centre to support those crossing through Qastal.
The Egyptian Red Crescent has dealt with 44,000 cases of emergency first aid, in addition to counseling for 8,700 people, the minister said.

El-Qabbag met the ERC executive director Rami el-Nazer, and a number of volunteers, who she thanked personally for their service.

The Ministry of Social Solidarity, through the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, has coordinated with its Sudanese counterpart, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Egyptian Embassy in Sudan, and with all state agencies to provide all forms of humanitarian relief.

In co-operation between the Egyptian government and various United Nations agencies, relief efforts are still continuing for those fleeing the conflicts in Sudan through the Qastal and Arqin crossings on the Egyptian-Sudanese border.
