Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Wednesday witnessed the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral co-operation.
The documents included a memorandum outlining co-operation priorities under Egypt’s Vision 2030 and China’s Belt and Road Initiative. It was signed for Egypt by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and for China by Zheng Shanjie, chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission.
The two sides also signed an agreement on economic and technical co-operation, signed by Abdelatty and Chen Xiaodong, chairman of the China International Development Co-operation Agency.
Egyptian Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid and Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao signed a memorandum on boosting cooperation in industrial and supply chains.
Egyptian Communications and Information Technology Minister Raafat Hendy and the head of China’s National Development and Reform Commission signed a memorandum on cooperation in information technology.
A further memorandum between Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone and China’s Commerce Ministry was signed by the zone’s chairman, Mostafa Sheikhoun, and Wang.
More than 20 other cooperation documents covering technology, finance, the digital economy and other sectors were also signed on the sidelines of Xi’s visit, according to Egypt’s state news agency MENA.
