Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Mrs Entissar El-Sisi accompanied Chinese President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan on a tour of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on Wednesday, as part of the Chinese president’s official visit to Egypt.
Presidency Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy said President El-Sisi and Mrs El-Sisi welcomed President Xi and Mrs Peng upon their arrival at the museum.
The tour opened with a detailed presentation on the Grand Egyptian Museum and its unique collection of antiquities, including explanations in both Arabic and Chinese of some of the most prominent artefacts on display.
The two presidents and their wives then toured the Grand Staircase, where they received detailed explanations of the artefacts displayed along its length.
They also posed for commemorative photographs at the Pyramids Panorama area.
During the tour, President Xi expressed his profound admiration for Egypt’s ancient civilisation and its significant contribution to human progress.
He also praised the Grand Egyptian Museum as a world-class cultural landmark that reflects the grandeur of Egyptian civilisation.
Spokesman el-Shenawy said the tour concluded with a visit to the King Tutankhamun Gallery, where the two presidents and their wives were briefed on some of its most important treasures.
These included the golden mask and throne of King Tutankhamun, as well as other artefacts showcasing the precision and sophistication of ancient Egyptian art.
