President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has lauded the momentum and positive trajectory of ties between Egypt and the European Union (EU) since the two sides elevated bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024.

President Sisi, on Tuesday, met European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in the French city of Evian on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.

The president reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to further enhancing ties and exploring opportunities for co-operation in innovative and non-traditional fields, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy, said.

President Sisi also highlighted ongoing efforts to implement the outcomes of the 2024 Egypt-EU Investment Conference and the economic event held on the sidelines of the Egypt-EU Summit in October 2025.

He reviewed the structural economic reforms which Egypt had undertaken to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of the national economy and improve the investment climate. He also expressed hope that these measures would be reflected in increased European business activity in Egypt, Spokesman El-Shennawy noted.

For her part, the EC chief voiced satisfaction with the positive pace of co-operation with Egypt across various sectors.

She commended Egypt’s economic reform efforts over the recent years, as well as its role in combating terrorism and irregular migration, particularly in light of the significant economic and humanitarian burdens resulting from crises in the surrounding region.

Von der Leyen stressed EU’s commitment to continuing close cooperation with Egypt to address common challenges, build peace and strengthen cooperation across the Mediterranean.

The talks also covered a number of regional issues of mutual concern. President Sisi outlined Egypt’s position, which is based on the need to reach sustainable political solutions to the region’s crises while preserving the sovereignty of states and safeguarding the interests of their peoples, Spokesman El-Shennawy noted.

The president reaffirmed Egypt’s support for efforts that contributed to concluding an agreement between the United States and Iran, and stressed the importance of preventing a return to military escalation in the region and ensuring the security and sovereignty of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, as well as freedom of international navigation.

President Sisi also underscored Egypt’s commitment to working with the EU  to implement the agreement aimed at ending the war in the Gaza Strip.

The president further reviewed Egypt’s support for the stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon, as well as its efforts to help resolve the conflict in Sudan and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.

For her part, von der Leyen praised Egypt’s responsible approach to regional crises and highlighted the growing convergence of positions between Egypt and the EU, which she said places both sides in a strong position to play constructive roles in resolving ongoing regional challenges.
