Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Owner and Chairman of the German shipbuilder Lürssen Yachts Peter Lürssen followed up on Thursday the executive situation of the co-operation with the company for developing maritime industries in Egypt, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

The meeting also discussed the training programmes and qualification of the technical human resources to enhance their capabilities in the field as part of Egypt’s strategy to localise the industry and transfer modern technology, Ambassador Radi added.

The meeting was attended by Commander of the Egyptian Navy Vice Admiral Ahmed Khaled, Rear Admiral Mohamed Shalabi, and Captain Mohamed el-Makhzangi from the Navy Command.

Attending from German side were Lürssen Defence Deputy Chairman Gosch Alexander and the company’s procurator in Egypt Maged Mansour.

Lürssen is a leading German shipbuilder, founded in 1875 by Friedrich Lürssen. The company manufactures yachts and warships of all types, including missile boats and frigates.

At another meeting on Thursday, President Sisi also ordered the authorities concerned to carry on with the studies and work for developing all fields of maritime transport and ports across the nation, to maximise the preferential advantages Egypt enjoys thanks to the country’s geographical location, and closeness to the global maritime routes.

President Sisi made the orders on Thursday during a meeting with Commander of the Egyptian Navy Vice Admiral Khaled, Assistant Navy Commander for Engineering Affairs Rear Admiral Mohamed Fekri, Captain el-Makhzangi from the Navy Command, and Engineering Adviser to the Navy Command Dr Hassan Abu Saada, Ambassador Radi said.

During the meeting, the president was briefed on the latest engineering and construction techniques for building and developing seaports nationwide, Radi added.
