Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday stressed the importance of halting the ongoing escalation between Israel and Iran, warning of the serious consequences that could result from a broader regional conflict and reiterating the need to return to negotiations to prevent further bloodshed.

Presidential spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said in a statement that Sisi made the remarks during a phone call with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman, in which the two leaders discussed regional developments.

Sisi praised Oman’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, emphasizing the need to revive and support diplomatic channels to spare the region the devastation of war.

Sultan Haitham, for his part, commended Egypt’s efforts to curb violence in the region and affirmed his country’s commitment to joint action in that regard.

The two leaders also reaffirmed the priority of securing a ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave, where civilians are suffering amid the ongoing Israeli offensive. They stressed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is the cornerstone of lasting stability in the Middle East.

The call also highlighted the strong ties between Egypt and Oman, with both leaders expressing their commitment to enhancing cooperation in various fields in line with the historical relationship between the two nations.
