Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has stressed the importance of intensifying joint action with Estonia, particularly where fighting terrorism, organized crimes and human trafficking is concerned.

Addressing a press conference following his meeting with Alar Karis of Estonia Wednesday, Sisi stressed the need to deepen economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries.

Sisi told reporters his Estonian counterpart is accompanied by a delegation of businessmen to explore investment opportunities in Egypt, especially in the fields of energy, mining, education and food industries.

He said the meeting also took up cooperation in technical training, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

Sisi reiterated support for Estonia at EU institutions regarding what he called “files of priority for Egypt”.

Figuring high in the meeting were also regional issues, atop of which the Palestinian cause. Sisi said he posted Karis on Egypt’s strenuous efforts to stop the unjustified Israeli escalations in Gaza and Lebanon, which expanded to Yemen and Syria as well.

Unified efforts should be exerted to reach an immediate ceasefire and prevent a wide-scale regional war, the president affirmed, underscoring the importance of establishing a sovereign Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders as a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East.

He said his talks with the visiting Estonian president also tackled the situation in Libya, Syria, Sudan and Yemen, as well as Red Sea security and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

Sisi said he also agreed with Karis on the need to intensify efforts to handle the files of food and energy security.
