CAIRO – President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Tuesday at Ittihadiya Presidential Palace marking a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Uganda.

The first MoU relates to the mutual exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, special and official passports. It was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Ugandan Minister of Internal Affairs Kahinda Otafiire.

The second MoU focuses on cooperation in diplomacy and institutional development between the Egyptian Institute for Diplomatic Studies and the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The agreement was signed by Abdelatty and Ugandan Minister of State for International Affairs Henry Oryem Okello.

A third MoU addresses support for the Office of the Ugandan Prime Minister (Luwero-Rwenzori Triangle) in promoting livelihood improvement through water-for-production initiatives, fruit processing and income enhancement for civilian war veterans. It was signed by Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk and Ugandan Minister of State for the Luwero Triangle and Rwenzori Regions Alice Kaboyo.

The fourth MoU aims to enhance bilateral investment relations between the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones in Egypt (GAFI) and the Ugandan Investment Authority. It was signed by Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan el Khatib and Ugandan Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development Matia Kasaija.

The fifth MoU focuses on the implementation of an integrated water resources management project as part of the Egyptian Initiative for Development in the Nile Basin countries. It was signed by Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam and Ugandan Minister of State for Water and Environment Beatrice Anywar.
