Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi made a tour on Friday of a number of development and infrastructure projects in Greater Cairo to appraise progress on these projects.

The tour took the president to several road and bridge projects as well as the project for developing the ancient part of Egyptian capital Cairo.

The project, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said, aims to bring this ancient part of Cairo back to its original beauty and splendour.

He noted that the project also aims to put the area on the Egyptian tourist map, thanks to its value in Egypt’s history.

The tour took the president to southern Cairo where a major project for the restoration of the Cairo Citadel Aqueduct is carried out. The aqueduct transferred water from the Nile River to the Cairo Citadel hundreds of years ago.

The aqueduct is an architectural wonder of the ancient part of Cairo. The development project for the area also
includes the removal of its tannery and the construction of modern residential units instead.

The units have façades that match their ancient surroundings and carry some of the features of the Islamic part of the Egyptian capital.

The president’s tour also took him to the Hasballah el-Kafrawi Road Axis, which connects the southern Cairo neighbourhood of Maadi with the Ring Road and the Martyr’s Axis.

It connects those areas with the eastern Cairo districts of New Cairo, passing by the Field Marshal Mohamed Fahmi Road Axis, Ambassador Radi said.
