Egyptian Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Minister Badr Abdelatty met Tunisian President Kais Saied during a visit to Tunis, delivering a written message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi that underscored Egypt’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordination with Tunisia.

According to a statement by the foreign ministry, Abdelatty conveyed Sisi’s greetings to Saied and his wishes for Tunisia’s continued stability, progress and prosperity, stressing Egypt’s desire to deepen cooperation across political, economic and social fields in line with the close historical and fraternal ties between the two countries.

Saied asked Abdelatty to pass on his greetings to Sisi, praising the depth of relations between the two nations and the level of ongoing coordination and cooperation at various levels.

The top Egyptian diplomat welcomed the outcomes of the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint High Committee, held in Cairo from Sept. 8 to 11, 2025, saying the results reflected both sides’ commitment to expanding cooperation in priority sectors. He also cited the positive results of the 16th session of the Joint Consular Committee, held in Tunis on Jan. 15–16, 2026, as evidence of efforts to accelerate bilateral cooperation.

Talks also focused on boosting economic, trade and investment ties. Abdelatty said both sides aimed to increase trade volumes, encourage mutual investment and strengthen partnerships between the two countries’ business communities to support development and expand economic cooperation.

On regional and international issues, the meeting reviewed developments amid what both sides described as unprecedented challenges, with a focus on the Palestinian issue. Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s efforts, in coordination with regional and international partners, to advance the implementation of the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan, support the national committee for administering Gaza and accelerate the deployment of an international stabilization force to help sustain a ceasefire.

He stressed the importance of ensuring the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza to pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction and to ease the humanitarian crisis in the enclave.

The two sides also discussed the situation in Libya. Abdelatty highlighted the importance of the trilateral consultation mechanism among the foreign ministers of Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria as a key framework for coordinating the efforts of neighbouring states and supporting the Libyan people in achieving security and stability. He reiterated Egypt’s support for a comprehensive political settlement that preserves Libya’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity and is led by Libyans.

The meeting further addressed developments in Sudan and the Horn of Africa, with both sides underscoring the need for continued coordination and consultation between Cairo and Tunis to support regional security and stability and advance the development aspirations of the region’s peoples.
