Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has been named the 2024 “Champion of Peace” by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM).

The PAM said in a statement that it is proud to announce that President Sisi has been selected as the recipient of the esteemed Champion of Peace Prize for the year 2024,

The PAM prize is awarded annually to individuals and organisations whose exemplary endeavors significantly enhance political, socio-economic development, environmental stewardship, cultural enrichment, and interreligious dialogue across the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions, thereby fostering peace and prosperity.

President Sisi’s selection for the 2024 award is attributed to his exceptional efforts in brokering ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, facilitating crucial humanitarian aid delivery to the Palestinian populace, and securing the release of hostages. His leadership and unwavering commitment have played a pivotal role in promoting peace and stability throughout the region.

The statement further underscored Egypt’s ongoing humanitarian initiatives in Gaza, steadfast advocacy for lasting ceasefires, and support for a Two-State Solution, all of which align with the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and pertinent Resolutions. Egypt’s dedication to mitigating further conflict escalation underscores its indispensable role in upholding international and regional peace and security.
