Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron have warned that the Middle East region is sliding into a widespread state of instability.

This came during a phone call Sisi received Monday from Macron, spokesperson at the presidency Ahmed Fahmi said.

The call dealt with bilateral relations and ways to enhance them in the various fields, in accordance with the historic and strategic nature that characterizes cooperation between the two countries.

The call between the two presidents also discussed developments of the situation in the Gaza Strip, where they reviewed the latest developments in the efforts aimed at reaching an immediate and sustainable ceasefire, exchanging detainees, and implementing humanitarian aid, as well as discussing the efforts of the two countries to provide medical services to the wounded and injured Palestinians, said the spokesperson.

They also discussed regional developments in the context of the recent escalations, warning of the danger of the region sliding into a widespread state of instability.

They agreed on the need to stop the escalation at various levels, and stressed that reaching a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue through the two-state solution represents the path towards restoring security, peace and stability for all the peoples of the region.
