President Sisi stresses commitment to deepening strategic relations with Brazil

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the French city of Évian on Wednesday, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.

During the meeting, President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s strong appreciation of the long-standing historical ties between the two countries. He stressed Cairo’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing all existing channels of consultation between the two sides, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said.

The president also underscored the importance of continued efforts to implement the outcomes of the strategic partnership agreement signed in November 2024, noting the notable growth in trade exchange between Egypt and Brazil in recent years.

For his part, President Lula da Silva expressed his pleasure at meeting President Sisi once again, welcoming the growing momentum in bilateral relations. He described Egypt as Brazil’s most important trading partner in Africa.

President Lula da Silva praised the expanding frameworks of co-operation following Egypt’s accession to the BRICS grouping, as well as the strategic partnership agreement and the free trade agreement between Egypt and MERCOSUR. He stressed the importance of increasing bilateral trade, which has recently exceeded $5.5 billion, according to the presidency spokesperson.

The two leaders also discussed co-operation in multilateral forums. President Lula expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts, under President Sisi’s leadership, to restore stability in the Middle East, reaffirming Brazil’s support for Egypt’s approach, which prioritises peaceful, comprehensive, and sustainable solutions to crises in the Middle East and Africa.
