President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said Egypt and China have agreed to launch the third phase of expansions of the Egyptian-Chinese industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone). The step will open a new phase of co-operation in key sectors, including renewable energy, automotive manufacturing, textiles and chemical fibers.
President Sisi made the announcement following talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday. He welcomed his friend Xi to Egypt on a historic visit coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1956, when Egypt became the first Arab and African country to recognise with the People’s Republic of China and establish diplomatic relations with it.
He noted that bilateral relations had continued to develop until they were elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2014, enabling the two countries to play an active role in shaping international interactions amid rapid and significant changes in the global order.
President Sisi praised the tangible progress achieved in Egyptian-Chinese relations across various fields, attributing the growing co-operation to a clear political will on both sides to broaden bilateral ties.
He particularly highlighted the importance of industrial localisation and technology transfer, describing them as priorities for both countries, voicing Egypt’s keenness to continue working with China to deliver further tangible results.
