Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Thursday a phone call from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
The call tackled efforts exerted by Egypt to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as well as secure the exchange of detainees and the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid to Gazans.
The president warned of the escalating situation, noting the importance of preventing the widening of the conflict and activating the two-state solution to establish an independent Palestinian state.
Trudeau hailed Egypt’s efforts, stressing the importance of protecting civilians.
He noted that his country is supporting efforts aiming at reaching a ceasefire and warned of the risks of a further escalation of the situation.
