Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will head for Paris Wednesday to take part in the New Global Financial Pact Summit slated for June 22-23, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said.
President Sisi’s participation in the summit comes in response to an invitation from French President Emmanuel Macron in light of strong strategic ties binding Egypt and France, the spokesman added.
In statements on Wednesday, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi said that President Sisi’s participation in the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact at the Palais Brongniart in Paris comes in light of Egypt’s active role at the level of emerging economies in general, which contributes to promoting international initiatives aimed at supporting developing and least developed countries, along with facilitating their access to the liquidity needed to face the economic repercussions of successive global challenges, topped by climate change, COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and other subsequent crises; energy, food and supply chains.
The summit will seek to strengthen international cooperation to draw up appropriate mechanisms to secure the necessary financing to achieve the desired sustainable development goals in these countries, the spokesman added.
During the summit, President Sisi will focus on various issues of concern to developing countries, as well as stepping up international efforts to facilitate their access to the required financial flows in light of the challenges facing these countries as a result of the escalating global crises, the spokesman said.
Egypt’s endeavor to achieve the goals of sustainable development 2030, including the developed countries’ commitment to fulfil their pledges within the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement will figure high on the summit, he said, underlining Egypt’s presidency of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh in November 2022 and the Egyptian national experiment in dealing with the issue of climate change and expanding the use of renewable energy.
