President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received on Tuesday Greek National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias.
Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces and Minister of Defence and Military Production, Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, and Head of the Armed Forces Armament Authority, Major General Staff Mohamed Adly Abdel Wahid Soliman, also attended the meeting.
The Greek side included Greece’s Ambassador in Cairo, Nikolaos Papageorgiou, and Director of Foreign Relations and Military Strategy at the Hellenic National Defence, Major General Staff Major General Ioannis Kouris.
Welcoming the Greek defence minister’s visit to Egypt, President Sisi highlighted the strategic partnership between Egypt and Greec, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said.
Sisi also stressed the importance of carrying on with efforts to further boost this partnership across various fields, particularly in the military and defence sectors, in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly peoples.
Sisi also asked Dendias to convey his greetings to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The president underscored the importance of the trilateral co-operation between Egypt, Greece and Cyprus, describing it as a successful model of regional co-operation aimed at promoting peace, stability and shared prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean, El-Shennawy said.
In this regard, Sisi stressed the importance of continuing co-operation among the three countries to address common challenges and advance development in all three countries.
For his part, the Greek defence minister voiced appreciation for Egypt and conveyed Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ greetings to President Sisi.
Dendias affirmed Greece’s appreciation for the deep and longstanding historical ties with Egypt, stressing his country’s keenness to strengthen co-ordination with Egypt in addressing common challenges.
He also stressed the importance of continuing co-ordination between the two countries in combating terrorism and addressing illegal migration, expressing Greece’s appreciation for Egypt’s important role in efforts to curb illegal migration.
