Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed Egypt’s commitment to further strengthening co-operation with the Republic of The Gambia across various fields, particularly in trade, investment, development and the health sector, building on the longstanding partnership between the two countries.

This came during a telephone call the president received on Wednesday from President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, which addressed the distinguished bilateral relations and ways to advance joint co-operation in a manner that serves the interests of both brotherly nations.

The President highlighted Egypt’s keenness to build on successful cooperation in the health sector, notably the establishment of the Egyptian Medical Center in Banjul in December 2015, while emphasising the importance of expanding collaboration in development and economic domains.

For his part, President Barrow expressed his appreciation for the notable progress achieved in bilateral relations, reaffirming his country’s aspiration to broaden co-operation with Egypt and deepen partnership frameworks in various sectors.

The two leaders agreed to continue coordination to further enhance development and economic co-operation.

The call also addressed regional developments, where President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to restore stability in the Middle East and mitigate the impact of current tensions.

Discussions further covered developments in West Africa and avenues to support peace, security and sustainable development across the African continent.

President Barrow commended, in this respect, Egypt’s constructive role in promoting regional stability, expressing his country’s interest in strengthening coordination with Egypt to maintain peace and security in the region.
