CAIRO– Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has reiterated Egypt’s constant support for Iraq’s security and stability.
Cairo appreciates strategic relations with Baghdad, the president said during a meeting with visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shaia al Sudani earlier Sunday.
Sisi said Egypt continues to provide full support for the Iraqi people at all levels, especially where fighting terrorism is concerned.
The president also stressed the importance of quickly implementing joint projects between the two Arab countries in a way that would promote integration and help achieve development goals, said presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
The meeting also took up joint action under the trilateral cooperation mechanism among Egypt, Iraq and Jordan, Fahmy added.
Sisi and Sudani also exchanged views about Arab and regional issues of mutual interest.
For his part, the Iraqi premier hailed as “close and historical” ties with Egypt. He greatly appreciated Egyptian efforts in support of Iraq. Baghdad is keen on further enhancing cooperation with Cairo, Sudani said, adding that Iraq could very well benefit from Egyptian expertise in the different fields. (MENA)
