Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Wednesday at his residence in Washington members of the Friends of Egypt Group in the US Congress, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said.
President Sisi stressed – during the meeting – the decades-old relations binding Egypt and the United States, reiterating keenness to strengthen these relations based on mutual respect and common interest in light of the current circumstances and escalating challenges, especially instability and terrorism, whose repercussions have affected many countries, not to mention the negative repercussions on the economy, energy and food security caused by many successive global crises, atop of which is coronavirus pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
The Spokesman stated that the members of the group expressed appreciation for deep cooperation between the two friendly countries, stressing the great importance that the United States attaches to relations with Egypt, taking into account that Egypt is a pillar of security and stability in the Middle East and the Arab world and an important partner to the United States in the region.
They also expressed their deep appreciation for Egypt’s successful and effective role under the leadership of President Sisi in combating terrorism and extremist ideology, renewing religious discourse, and spreading values of freedom of belief, tolerance, and acceptance of the other.
They added that the US will never forget Egypt’s role in opening the door for peace and spreading the culture of coexistence in the Middle East.
Talks also tackled ways to enhance bilateral relations in a number of fields, and the current regional and international developments, especially the developments of the Palestinian issue.
The members of the group praised Egypt’s efforts to support peace process, citing President Sisi’s unwavering stance towards reaching a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees Palestinians’ rights in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
