Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received at the Presidential Palace in Cairo on Sunday a Chinese high-level delegation, headed by President Xi Jinping’s Special Representative, Li Xi, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Community Party’s Central Committee.
President Sisi and members of the visiting Chinese delegation expressed appreciation for historical and friendly relations between Egypt and China at all levels, Presidency Spokesman, Ahmed Fahmy, said.
He added that the two sides underscored their mutual keenness on maintaining the development of bilateral relations, in the light of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China.
The head of the Chinese delegation said his country has a high view of the development Egypt has been witnessing in recent years, one aiming at building the country’s capabilities and starting its own renaissance.
He especially referred to ongoing development efforts in the Suez Canal corridor which reflects Egypt’s unique strategic location between the East and the West, and steady improvements in its investment climate.
Mr Li Xi underscored the consistency of Egypt’s development vision with China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
President Sisi praised, meanwhile, China’s outstanding developmental expertise, Spokesman Fahmy said.
He added that the president cited opportunities for mutual benefits between the two countries.
The presidency spokesman said that the president and the visiting Chinese delegation reviewed during the meeting efforts made to increase co-operation between Egypt and China in the different fields, including in trade, industry localisation, technology transfer and energy, as well as tourism and international climate action.
He added that the Egyptian leader and members of the Chinese delegation exchanged views about means of maintaining international peace and security.
President Sisi underscored Egypt’s keenness to make a positive contribution to addressing the challenges facing the international community and strengthening joint international action for preserving peace and stability and pushing towards the reform of the international financial governance system, Spokesman Fahmy said.
He added that talks between the president and the members of the Chinese delegation also dealt with developments in the Middle East region.
The Chinese delegation, Spokesman Fahmy said, expressed appreciation for the active role Egypt plays in restoring and consolidating stability and development in the region, including through the fight against terrorism and by working to settle regional conflicts in a political manner.
The chairman of Egypt’s Senate, Justice Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek, and the Chinese ambassador to Cairo attended the meeting.
