Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has received a phone call from UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and discussed with him developments of the ongoing diplomatic efforts to stop the escalation in the Gaza Strip.
Sisi-Guterres talks also dealt with the implementation of an immediate humanitarian truce that preserves the lives of civilians and allows relief aid to enter the Gaza Strip immediately, said presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmi.
They discussed as well cooperation between Egypt and the UN regarding the protection of civilians and the access of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Guterres appreciated the essential role of Egypt in this regard, praising the firm Egyptian commitment.
Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the balanced position of Guteres, as well as the role of the United Nations at the political and humanitarian levels.
