President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday delegated Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki to lay a wreath at the Armed Forces martyrs memorial in Cairo’s Nasr City.
The move comes as part of Egypt and the Armed Forces’ celebration of the Veteran Warrior and Martyr Day, which falls on March 9.
March 9 was set to honor the martyrdom of former Chief of Staff Abdel Moneim Riad who was killed alongside several of his aides in an Israeli mortar attack during the War of Attrition in 1969.
He had participated in several wars, including the 1948 Palestine War and in defending the homeland during the tripartite aggression against Egypt in 1956
