Cyprus lauds Egypt’s role in supporting ME stability

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received on Tuesday Cypriot President Nikos.

During the meeting, President Sisi praised the deep-rooted historical ties between the two countries, stressing the importance of advancing their constructive cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, energy, tourism and transport, according to Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy.

President Sisi also underscored the pivotal importance of trilateral cooperation among Egypt, Cyprus and Greece under the framework of the joint cooperation mechanism, stressing the need to continue developing cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest.

For his part, President Christodoulides expressed his appreciation for the close relations between the two countries, praising the significant progress they have witnessed in recent years, particularly following the elevation of bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership in April 2026. He highlighted, in particular, growing cooperation in the natural gas sector.

The Cypriot president also affirmed his country’s keenness to strengthen its partnership with Egypt in a manner that serves the shared interests of the two friendly peoples.

The Presidency Spokesperson also said that the meeting addressed regional and international issues.

President Sisi stressed the importance of de-escalating tensions in the region and restoring regional peace and stability, highlighting the efforts Egypt is making in this regard.

For his part, President Christodoulides expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s active role in supporting regional stability. He also praised Egypt’s positive efforts to address irregular migration, stressing his aspiration to continue coordination and consultations with Egypt to address common challenges.

The two presidents also discussed developments in the Palestinian issue.

They stressed the need to resolve the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution and in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. They also expressed their categorical rejection of attempts to displace the Palestinians.

President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only way to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
